Gemstones and Their Magic

Rocks - Now & Then

Gemstones are minerals that, when cut and polished, are prized for their beauty and/or rarity. Our discussion will include precious and semi-precious gemstones as well as other rocks and other natural organic materials used for jewelry creation.  They have been used by our ancestors for thousands of years to make jewelry for adornment and for ritualistic purposes.  Gemstones are the flowers of the mineral kingdom.  Their enduring beauty exudes an energy or the result of their beauty causes an energy in us that is magical.

Many famous people have relied on gemstones for their creative energy.  Thomas Edison carried quartz crystals with him at all times and called them his dream crystals.  George Sand and the poet Yeats also relied on gemstones to spark their creative genius. Crystals are believed to assist in meditation, healing, prayer, clearer perception, inner peace, a connection with higher truths and the opening of the heart and the mind.  Each gem conveys a symbolic language of their own.  We will attempt to translate those attributes based upon customary wisdom by stone type.
